Streszczenie:
A theorem of Baron, Matkowski, and Nikodem characterizes those pairs of functions (defined on vector spaces) that can be separated by a convex one. The finite dimensional version of this result links surprisingly functional inequalities and convex geometry: The proof is based on the classical Carathéodory theorem. The problem of convex separation still motivates researchers. In our talk, we present a brief overview of the topic and demonstrate what happens if we try to extend the theorem of Baron, Matkowski, and Nikodem to Riemannian manifolds. It urns out that meaningful extensibility is closely connected to the convex structure induced by the geodesics of the underlying manifold.
